SIMS-Sync connects to SIMS .net using a standard file that is located in the Windows folder of your machine.

In order for some of the tasks to run, SIMS-Sync must import some basic RptDef files into SIMS .net. If SIMS-Sync cannot import these reports you will see one of the following errors:

Error running Staff map Extract: System.Xml.XmlException: Root element is missing.

Error running Studmap Extract: System.Xml.XmlException: Root element is missing.

Error running Studmap Extract: System.Xml.XmlException: Root element is missing.

Report Import: Error - System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception (0x80004005): The system cannot find the path specified

Please follow these steps to ensure the RptDef files can be imported.

1. Your sims.ini file is not pointing at the correct location for your SIMS .net installation. You can check this by doing the following:

Locate your SIMS .net shortcut on the desktop. Right click and select Properties:

Navigate to the Shortcut tab and make a note of the Start in Location.

Open a new File Window and Navigate to C:\Windows and locate the sims.ini file

Right click on the file and select Open/Edit.

Ensure the SIMSDotNetLocation matches the Start in Location for the SIMS .net shortcut above.

If these locations do not match, please change the sims.ini file to reflect the SIMS .net shortcut Start in Location.

Important: Please ensure there are no spaces after .net or that there are no "quotation" marks surrounding the directory.

2. You will need to do a Right Click and run as Administrator.

You can also set SIMS-Sync to run all the time as Administrator. Right click on Launch SIMS-Sync and select Properties. Navigate to the Compatability Tab and tick the Run this program as an administrator box. Click OK to confirm; you may need to supply a Windows Administrator Account.

You will also need to ensure that the AlfieMain.exe (in the installation directory) is running as Administrator. Right click on Launch AlfieMain.eve and select Properties. Navigate to the Compatability Tab and tick the Run this program as an administrator box. Click OK to confirm; you may need to supply a Windows Administrator Account.

3. The CommandReport.exe or CommandReportImporter.exe files are missing. You can check this by going to the SIMS .net installation directory (please see above to find this location) and locating the two files:

If they are missing, please contact your Capita Support Team.

3. You are unable to import or run a report within SIMS .net. You can test this by launching SIMS .net.

Log in using the SIMS account you created for SIMS-Sync. Go to Reports > Import

Click Open and navigate to the SIMS-Sync installation directory, select the AlfieClassSubject2.RptDef and click Open. Click Import.

If the report fails to import please contact your local CAPITA support.

If it imports successfully, go to Reports > Run Report. Expand the Focus Folder, then select Class. Attempt to run the AlfiesoftClassSubject2 report.

If you have followed the above instructions and you receive the following error please ensure that you have Microsoft Office installed on the machine or contact your local CAPITA support:
